Pete Swanson continues to provide mediation training assistance in Kosovo

Building on the mediation training provided to US AID’s Commercial Law Enforcement Project in October of 2013, Pete Swanson returned to Kosovo for three weeks in March, 2014, to provide additional assistance to budding Kosovar mediators. Pete provided refresher training to seasoned mediators in Pristina, more basic training to a new cadre of mediators based in Prizren, and supervised the rigorous practicums (simulated mediations) that graduating mediators must face before mediating on their own.

Pete Swanson Provides Mediation Training for Commercial Mediators in Kosovo

Working under the Commercial Law Enforcement Project for US AID, Pete Swanson provided two 40 hour basic edition training programs to commercial mediators in Kosovo in the cities of Peja and Gjilan, October 21-30, 2013. Additional work is now being planned for the spring of 2014, which may involve advanced training as well as marketing of the Mediation Association.

CSR conducts an international commercial arbitration and mediation training for government officials in Turkmenistan

Bob Randolph and his colleague, Mark Ball, conducted a four day “International Commercial Arbitration and Mediation” training” seminar (July 9-12, 2013) for governmental officials in Turkmenistan which was delivered under the auspices of USAID and Deloitte Consulting, LLP. The program covered drafting “modern” arbitration laws, drafting investment treaties and contracts, and the arbitration/mediation of investment disputes before ICSID. The seminar received high marks from participants, and Randolph and Ball look forward to conducting a follow-on seminar in the fall of 2013.

Frank Carr Updates: Disputes Review Board Work, Partnering Workshops and Nepal Lecture

Disputes Review Board (DRB) Chairman Selection – Construction
In January 2013, CSR partner, Frank Carr, was selected as the DRB Chairman of the Dispute Review Board for the Greenbelt Test Track and Commissioning Facility project by the Washington Metropolitan Area Transit Authority (Owner) and Skanska USA Civil Southeast, Inc. (Contractor). The project is for the construction of three facilities, including a test track for new subway rail cars, a commissioning facility for the new cars, and a parking garage for employees.

Disputes Review Board (DRB) Member Selection – Construction
In November 2012, CSR partner, Frank Carr, was selected as a DRB Member for the Orange Blue Line Rehabilitation Project from Stadium Armory (Washington D.C.) to National Airport (Northern Virginia) by the Washington Metropolitan Area Transit Authority (Owner) and Clark Construction Group (Contractor). The project is for the construction of electrical upgrades and other rehabilitation work at stations along the rail line.

Partnering Workshop Facilitation – Frostburg University, Maryland
In January 2013, CSR partner, Frank Carr, facilitated the partnering workshop between the University of Maryland Capital Area Projects’ office (Owner), Gilbane Construction Inc (Contractor), and Frostburg University (User) for the construction of the “Center for Communications and Information Technology” at Frostburg State University in Frostburg, Maryland.

In January 2013, CSR partner, Frank Carr, facilitated the partnering workshop between the Army Corps of Engineers (Owner), Nelson Construction (Contractor), and The City of Tarpon Springs (User) for the Whitcomb and Kreamer Bayou Revetment Project in Pinellas County, Florida.

Nepal Briefing – La Jolla, California
CSR partner, Frank Carr, was invited by the Bishop’s School in La Jolla, California to make a presentation on the mediation work CSR (Frank Carr and Bob Randolph) performed in Nepal from 2005-2007 for the USAID Rule of Law project, link here, and provide a current assessment of the political and diversity environment within Nepal.
